Introduction to SRS

Dear Parents/Carers,

Important information about the Griffin State School 2026 Student Resource Scheme.  At Griffin SS we recognise the increase cost of living expenses for families and subsequently our leadership team have had a financial review of the SRS and made the decision to redirected some of our grant funding to subsidise the SRS for 2026 including how the scheme operates and the annual participation fee.

The Queensland Government supports students' education by providing funding for:

• Instruction e.g., teachers / teacher aides

• Facilities e.g., buildings, amenities, furniture, cleaning, maintenance

• Administration e.g., staffing and resources to administer the operations of the school

Government funding does not extend to individual student resources such as textbooks, computer or musical equipment for personal use, and many items used/consumed by the student in the classroom. Supply of these items is the responsibility of parents. To provide parents with a cost-effective and time saving alternative to purchasing textbooks and resources elsewhere, our school operates the SRS each year.

Yes, I want to participate in the SRS:

Parents who have previously completed an SRS participation form and wish to continue participating in the SRS do not need to do anything.  For Prep and new families there would have been a Participation Agreement form with your enrolment package, those who have not previously provided us with a Participation Agreement form, please complete and return it to the school.  The SRS fee for 2026 will be $50.00 and will be invoiced in Term 4 of 2025 and payment will be required by Friday 20 February 2026 (end of week 4).

No, I do not wish to participate in the SRS:

Ticking 'NO' to participation or deciding to opt out of the SRS participation means that you are agreeing to provide items throughout the year for your student to participate in additional learning activities. You must also understand that choosing this method means you will be paying a higher price for these items (our bulk purchasing discount is not applied).

SRS Participation Information:

The objective of the scheme is to provide a convenient, and cost-effective way for students to access educational resources beyond the standard book list items to support and enhance the learning experience at school. The Department of Education encourages parents to participate in the scheme. Participation is for the duration of your child's enrolment at the school. A parent's participation or non-participation in the scheme will continue as per their previously completed Participation Agreement Form. A parent can opt in or out of the scheme in subsequent years by completing another Participation Agreement Form (included with this letter).  Schools are able to purchase items in bulk, don't pass on GST and also provide a further discount to parents. Opting into the scheme can save you between $55-$60 depending on the year level of your children.

The SRS is not used to raise funds for other purposes, and revenue collected through the SRS is applied directly to the resources and operation of the scheme. The scheme's operation, resource inclusions and participation fees are approved annually by our school's P&C Association. The P&C also provide funding to the school to support and enhance educational outcomes for all students.

Please note, C2C and PLD resources are not fully covered in workbooks, therefore the school provides these materials through this program with the photocopying charge included in the SRS.
